Galbraith Restored
Abstract
Half a century separates us from the publication of J. K. Galbraith's "The New Industrial State", which became a milestone in the world socio-economic literature. In this book, he largely anticipated the "agenda" of economic discussions held at the beginning of this century - discussions about the role of reindustrialization, about ways to create a new type of material production, about the revival of public regulation of market economy and many other issues of today's economy. One of his most important achievements was the substantive development of the most important problems of the industrial economy - a phenomenon that remains dominant despite all post-industrial myths. Of course, over the past half century, the industrial economy has changed significantly. Today we are talking about knowledge-intensive material production and the new industrial society of the second generation. Galbraith directly linked the progress of the new industrial economy and "planning systems" (corporations) with the need for state regulation of the market, showing the mutual dependence of the new quality of industry, the special role of corporations and state regulation. And today we are engaged in a creative dialogue with Galbraith, we rely on his developments as the starting point of our own research. This book includes, for the most part, previous work by leading Russian scholars, where they have engaged in a silent, not always explicit, dialogue with Galbraith's work over the past decades, creatively and critically developing or reinterpreting his ideas, offering their own original solutions to the problems he posed. The introduction to the book was written by John Kenneth Galbraith's son, the renowned American scholar Professor James K. Galbraith.
