Overview

About WAN

The World Association of Noonomy (WAN) was founded in Milan, Italy, on 26 March 2026 and acts in accordance with the Charter. WAN is a non-profit organisation that serves the public interest, it promotes social progress rooted in solidarity and social responsibility.

WAN's Mission

To bring together researchers from around the world to advance the theory and practice of noonomy and define the principles, pathways, and mechanisms of the nootransition, the movement towards a society where advances in science and technology foster human development, unlock creative potential, and strengthen solidarity. In this society, the biosphere and technosphere form a harmonious whole, creating a human habitat that meets the reasonable needs of both society and the individual.

WAN delivers on this mission through international research collaboration, such as joint projects, congresses, academic forums, publishing, and education.

WAN supports a global network of Centres of Noonomy and is building a multilingual Knowledge Base of Noonomy researchers worldwide. WAN carries out organizational and informational activities to promote the ideas of the noonomy theory in the public sphere.

Congresses and Forums

Every year, WAN hosts congresses, forums, conferences, and seminars that bring together researchers and practitioners to explore technological change, its social consequences, and practical responses grounded in the principles of noonomy.

Research

WAN conducts research into societal nootransformation, the nootransition, and the theory and practice of noonomy.

Publications

WAN publishes and distributes scholarly work, including monographs, edited volumes, articles, translations, conference proceedings, and transcripts. The quarterly peer-reviewed journal Noonomy and Noosociety. Almanac of Scientific Works of the S.Y. Witte INID, published in Russian, English, and Chinese, provides a platform for scholarly dialogue and collaboration in the field. Its Editor-in-Chief is Professor Sergey Bodrunov.

Education

WAN supports education through a growing network of Noonomy centres offering both in-person and online courses. Textbooks and teaching materials accompany colloquia, seminars, and public lectures at universities around the world. The WAN Institute of Noonomy, established by the Association together with the UN Peace Institute UPEACE, unites the scientific and educational activities of WAN under its auspices.

Biography

He is a founder (1997) and Director of St. Petersburg S.Y. Witte Institute of Noonomy and New Industrial Development. The main subject of the Institute exploratory activity is a broad range of issues related to theory of noonomy, the forecasting of middle-term and long-term institutional, economic and technological effects.

He is the author of over 1200 scientific papers, including over 35 monographs concerning the issues of information systems development and society informatization, science and technology progress growth, intellectual property, history, the state and development prospects of the global economy, a strategy of high technology economic development, noonomy.

He is the author of fundamental papers on the concept of the New industrial society of the second generation (NIS.2) and the theory of Noonomy recognized worldwide. In particular, S. Bodrunov’s book Noonomy was awarded a prize of the World Association for Political Economy (WAPE) «For an outstanding contribution to the development of Political Economy in the XXI(th) century» (2018). The course for Noonomy theory is taught in the leading Russian universities.

The book Noonomy is published in the Russian, English, Italian, Croatian, Spanish, Belarusian, Azerbaijani, Portuguese, Chinese and Hebrew languages.

He has an extensive experience in business assets management, is a qualified investor in the area of high-tech manufacturing. He has two adult daughters.

Members of WAN can be researchers with academic degrees from various fields of knowledge, students, master's and doctoral candidates, scientific and educational organizations, any individuals (both natural and legal persons) aged 18 and over who are interested in promoting the theory of noonomy and are ready to work together and cooperate for the benefit of social progress.

Detailed Terms of Participation

WAN membership enables researchers to bring their own work and professional experience into the international discussion on noonomy. Members receive updates on forthcoming events, new publications, and projects. They can attend Association events, submit work for publication, propose topics for academic discussion, initiate collaborative projects, and connect with colleagues worldwide.

Depending on the terms of each event, members may register as attendees, apply to speak, or help organise academic events. The Association may also invite members to contribute to collaborative research, lectures, seminars, and materials for the multilingual Noonomy Knowledge Base. With their consent, members may have their professional profiles published on the WAN website and linked to relevant publications, events, and sections of the Knowledge Base.

Digital materials and printed copies are provided subject to availability and the terms of the relevant publishing project. Membership alone does not guarantee that a presentation will be included in an event programme, that a manuscript will be accepted, that a project will receive funding, or that publications will be provided free of charge. Each decision is made through the applicable selection process.

Payment Terms

For professors and researchers, as well as all other members not listed separately, the fee is currently waived pending a new decision by the Council on the matter of membership fees. The membership fee for legal entities is paid by bank transfer to the account of the Association's founding member, the Noonomy Foundation (Фонд «Ноономика»).

How the Application Is Reviewed

The WAN Council reviews applications within 180 days of receipt and decides whether to approve them. Applicants are notified within 180 days of the decision. If an application is approved, the Council enters the new member in the Register of Members and the member receives a certificate confirming their membership of the Association.
