Global Neoliberal Capitalism and the Alternatives: From Social Democracy to State Capitalisms
Abstract
Before the reader, the first full-text translation of the book by the English theoretical scientist David Lane, which will be issued for the Russian readers under the name of "Global Neoliberal Capitalism and the Alternatives: From Social Democracy to State Capitalisms". The book was first published in 2023 by Bristol University Press (UK). As a specialist researching post-socialist economies (including Russia and China), Lane demonstrates a keen understanding of the specific features of the events and processes unfolding in the world. The author raises highly essential issues about the socio-economic, geopolitical, civilizational-ideological, psychological and other foundations of the transformation of the socio-economic world order. Particular attention is paid to the issues of research into the neoliberal form of economic globalization, which, under the patronage of influential Western (mostly ultra-liberal) ruling elites and the international alliances and institutions subordinate to them (IMF, WTO, etc.), leads to large-scale processes of monetization and commercialization of many areas of life, dehumanizes and primitivizes the nature and value systems of human. Professor Lane not only poses the problem of the exhaustion of the subjective economic behavior paradigm on a global scale, but also offers several theoretically substantiated models of alternative social development. In turn, the hybrid form of market socialism with the regulatory role of the state is seen as a serious challenge to the theory and practice of global neoliberal capitalism of the 21st century.
